Mouth-watering French Toast!

Ahh Sundays… The thing I love about Sundays is it’s guaranteed that my husband isn’t working! It allows us some very precious family time that is always well spent! Sunday’s are also a day for farmers markets, relaxing but most of all, delicious breakfast! It’s always nice starting your day off with a big, yummy breakfast. I was searching some blogs for recipes and came across a very delicious twist to making the perfect french toast! How to Peel an Onion has great recipes including the recipe for amazingly, mouth-watering french toast. I had to try it and when I did….oh man. I couldn’t even wait for the following Sunday to make it again! There is something about a crunchy outside with a gooey inside topped with warm maple syrup. Yum, I think I may be drooling. We like to serve these with pastured bacon (double yum) or simply by themselves! You’re missing out if you don’t give this a try!

Remember, when possible use organic & pastured ingredients

Ingredients: Serves 3-4 people — if you want to feed only 2 mouths, I recommend cutting the recipe in half

  • 1/4 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 4 eggs
  • pinch of sea salt
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 TBL virgin coconut oil
  • 1 TBL butter
  • 6 slices of bread, cut diagonally

Directions:

 1. Cut your slices of bread diagonally

2. In a large sauce pan, on medium heat, melt 2 TBL virgin coconut oil and 1 TBL butter.

*Make sure your swish the mixture around so it covers the whole bottom of the pan.

3. In a medium bowl combine eggs, salt, cinnamon and heavy whipping cream

4. Using a whisk, whisk together ingredients until batter is a consistent smooth texture

 5. Dip a piece of bread into the mixture, coat well, then place in frying pan. Fit pieces in comfortably, don’t overcrowd! Wait until the sides turn golden and flip. Don’t pick and poke at the pieces, leave them be until they are ready to be turned.

*if you find your bread are sticking when you try to turn them, add an additional teaspoon of coconut oil and butter

 6. Once they look golden brown like these do, go ahead and take them off the fryer. Place on a separate plate and cover until ready to serve.

7. Serve with some maple syrup (warm or cold) and enjoy! No need to go to any restaurant for mouth-watering french toast anymore! You can add powdered sugar if you have some on hand.

Try and stay away from grade A maple syrup. It’s loaded with high fructose corn syrup and tons of other sugars. When looking for maple syrup make sure it is a grade B. Also, when looking at the ingredient label the only ingredient you should see listed is what you see below in the picture: 100% Pure Organic Maple Syrup. Grade B is a little more costly than your common grade A syrup but the fact it isn’t loaded with a bunch of unnecessary sugar is well worth the extra few bucks!

If you try this recipe, let me know by leaving a comment. I’d love to hear how it turns out. 🙂

Until next time,
