There’s Something Sexy and Juicy About Getting Dirty…

That is… getting your hands dirty!

Just recently I was filling my newly made planter box with organic soil and compost and had to mix them together to make it as evenly distributed as I could. Let me tell you what… I felt amazing! There was just something about having my arms elbow deep into the soil and mixing it around. The sweet, sultry, earthy smell of the soil combined with the warmth of the sun was exhilarating! Combine that with day dreaming about self-grown juicy, ripe, colorful vegetables filling the space is pure ecstasy to me!

Planter box hubby built for me 🙂

Unfortunately many people do not take the time to participate in this euphoric hobby. In my previous post The Length’s People Go to Get Clean Food I stated that people back in the day used to work the land in some sort of way. People were rooted. They were united with terra firma. But now, we’re too busy caring about the unimportant things which completely detaches us from our foundation.

Being connected to the earth is essential for our health: physically, mentally, spiritually. In modern times due to concrete floors, rubber soled shoes, video games, cell phones, electromagnetic waves, and Wi-Fi, our bodies are completely out of whack, full of positive energy (in the form of free radicals) and disconnected from our roots. And actually, fascinating new research has raised the possibility that this disconnect may actually contribute to chronic pain, fatigue, and poor sleep that plague so many people.

One easy (and necessary, I believe) way to bridge that gap back to our roots is by being outside and getting our hands dirty with rich soil. Why do I think it’s necessary?

You see, Mother Earth is an amazing creature. Naturally, she has negative electromagnetic fields (negative energy or electrons) pulsing throughout her. I know it sounds counter intuitive because you would imagine that Mother Earth is full of positive energy but for the sake of “earthing” you have to switch the charges. Us humans have positive energy floating around in our bodies in a frenzy due to free radicals caused by inflammation. By having constant contact with Mother Earth’s gentle force field through walking barefoot in the grass, digging in the dirt, and hanging out in the ocean helps to neutralize those positive electrons or free radicals in our bodies.

Which is probably why when you are digging in the dirt you get that sense of ecstasy. Or when you are swimming in the ocean you are completely calm.

But it’s not just about the fact that our bodies become neutral and calm through grounding that makes it sexy about getting our hands dirty in the garden.

It’s the fact that we are self-sufficient in some way.

Food is a powerful thing, a necessity to life. To have the ability to take a seed, put it in the ground, nourish it and give it love so it can grow to provide food for our family is powerful! I don’t know about you but it makes me feel like I’m on top of the world. It makes me feel like I am a strong woman because I can provide for my family. It exhibits happiness because I know I will be serving clean food to my family. It makes me feel rebellious because I feel like I’m somewhat beating the corrupt system. And let’s admit, all of those combined with being rebellious is a little sexy and exciting. I feel being connected to the earth through gardening not only brings you back to your roots and inner self but also feeds your inner soul with self fulfillment, satisfaction, and happiness. And there’s nothing sexier than a woman who has confidence and true happiness projecting through their soul all while nourishing their family with home grown foods.

So don’t wait any longer. Go find some dirt, get your hands and finger nails dirty, plant some seeds and enjoy being connected to the earth through gentle energy forces while you’re doing it.

How does gardening make you feel? How do you connect yourself back to your roots and to the earth?

Until next time,
Loriel – Healthy Roots, Happy Soul

  1. Well said. I am a barefoot girl who loves to garden with my bare hands and feet. The feeling it gives me is amazing. I do feel energized when I garden. You explained it all beautifully 🙂 I am waiting patiently for the temps to rise and the ground to thaw. Thanks for sharing at The Gathering Spot. It's always a pleasure.
